Several tips for storing printing consumables

Time:2025-08-07 Views:4
How should printing consumables such as paper, printing plates, ink, etc. be stored? And how to preserve it to extend its service life and ultimately achieve maximum cost-effectiveness?

Methods for storing paper

Although some manufacturers have adjusted the raw paper process for different seasons from the perspective of paper characteristics, the following points still need to be paid attention to in the production process:

1. The purchased product should be stored indoors as much as possible, avoiding outdoor storage; Try to transport the products to the printing workshop for storage 24 hours before printing, so that the temperature, humidity, and paper in the printing workshop reach a balanced state. The temperature in the printing workshop should be maintained at 15-20 ℃, and the humidity should be maintained at 50% -60%;

2. Due to the large temperature difference between indoor and outdoor areas and dry weather, paper moisture is easily lost and warping occurs. Therefore, after opening the packaging, try to shorten the time for the paper to be left bare, and wrap it with PE film after printing to prevent product deformation. If there are any damages or damages, they should be repaired immediately;

3.During the process of printing, oiling, and drying paper, the moisture in the base paper will be lost, resulting in dryness and cracking of the paper surface. You can increase the width of the pressure line appropriately and adjust the depth of the pressure line; Or humidify the workshop, such as sprinkling water around the cardboard to increase the humidity in the air.

Method for saving printing plates

After printing, the printing plate should be immediately cleaned with a suitable solvent and soft bristled brush. Because ink is difficult to remove on the surface of the printing plate after drying, it can cause the plate to crack when it bends again.

Plate materials must avoid exposure to ultraviolet rays, incandescent lamps, fluorescent lamps, and sunlight, and be kept away from heat sources and ozone sources (such as printing machine motors, corona discharge treatment devices, etc.). For the unadhesive printing plate, paper or white plastic foam sheet shall be lined between each two plates, and then placed horizontally in the box specially used to hold the printing plate.

If the printing plate is mounted on the plate cylinder and stored together with the plate cylinder, the printing plate should be wrapped in black polyethylene film and sealed. In addition, protective liquid can also be sprayed on the surface of the printing plate to protect it, but it should be noted that these protective liquids cannot be sprayed on the back of the plate, as this will cause the plate to curl up.

Methods to extend the shelf life of ink

The remaining ink after printing must be sealed and stored in a dark place, and can be reused in future production. Before reusing, it must be filtered through a filter with a mesh size of 100 or more, thoroughly stirred, and then mixed with new ink.

In some northern regions, the winter climate is extremely cold, so it is necessary to prevent ink from gelling at low temperatures. If the ink undergoes gelation, it can be transferred to a warmer warehouse or placed in hot water to restore the insoluble substances to their original state.

In the storage and management of ink, the principle of "first in, first out" should also be followed, that is, the ink purchased first should be used first to prevent the ink from affecting its use due to prolonged storage time.

Ink is best sealed to prevent dust. A large number of dust particles or various impurity particles are likely to fall into the ink tank or adsorb onto the surface of the label material, thereby affecting the printing quality.

Safety first, when storing ink, it should be kept away from sources of fire and heat as much as possible to prevent accidents. It is best to maintain a constant temperature in the ink warehouse, and the temperature difference between it and the printing workshop should not be too large. If the temperature difference between the two is large, the ink should be placed in the printing workshop in advance, which is not only beneficial for the stability of ink performance, but also ensures high production efficiency.

Ink also has a certain shelf life. If stored for too long, various components in the ink formula may break down and precipitate. Therefore, ink should not be retained for a long time, and the retention period is generally around 1 year, otherwise it may affect the printing quality and even cause printing failures.
