The milk carton we usually use is more standardly known as a "Tetra Pak". It has been modified and designed by Tetra Pak since 1943, and has a history of more than 70 years. The most common type is the aseptic Tetra Pak bricks for packaging milk. Today we share with you the process of making milk packaging.
1. Lifting the "veil"
Milk needs to be stored in a well-sealed milk carton in order to retain its aroma. In order to ensure that the seal, the milk carton has four layers of "veil", layer by layer. On the outside is a printed layer, in the middle are layers of cardboard and aluminum foil, as well as a layer of plastic film glued tightly to the aluminum foil layer for a complete seal. There is also another way of saying that it is a seven-layer structure, counting the adhesive layer between the layers.
2. Printing plate mounting
The printing cylinder is a stationary device, and for Tetra Pak packages that need to be printed, the worker takes the printing plate for each color and adheres it to the printing cylinder.
3. Checking under the flash light
When the printing equipment is running at full speed, it is impossible to see with the naked eye. In order to better observe the printing effect, a flash lamp is needed. Fixed time intervals of light, so that the page stays on a printing screen, so that you can see the effect of multiple printing, to detect whether there is no printing distortion. The small color blocks on the box is used by the printer to see if there is no overlap and offset. The rumor that the combination of color blocks represents different additives can be denied. This color block on the milk carton is used for photoelectric positioning, in order to monitor the printing effect in real time.
4. Four-layer structure
Printing Layers
A particularly noteworthy design is the outermost "veil" of the milk carton - the printing layer. For this kind of high-volume packaging printing, if the factory prints all the colors at once, it will have very high requirements for the printing equipment. So a very cost-effective and convenient method was adopted - multi-color overprinting. Using the original equipment, different printing plates are used for each printing, only one color is printed at a time, and more colors can be generated by superimposing different colors, so that all the color requirements can be met in a maximum of 6 printings.
Printing Layer + Cardboard Layer
The cardboard layer is heated by baking and then squeezed by rollers to quickly bond the outer plastic printing layer to the cardboard layer.
Printing Layer + Cardboard Layer + Aluminum Foil Layer
The bonding equipment is shown below. On the left roller is the aluminum foil layer, in the middle comes down the adhesive layer, on the right roller is the printing layer and cardboard layer which are already glued together, on both sides are sprayed the liquefied glue, and the roller squeezes the three layers of the tetra pak to be glued together.

The last roller is glued and extruded, the left roller is the plastic film, the middle one is still the adhesive layer, the right one is the printing layer, cardboard layer and aluminum foil layer which are already glued together, both sides are spraying the liquefied glue, and the roller is extruding to glue all the four layers of the Tetra Pak together.
5. Cutting Components
After gluing, a particularly large roll of Tetra Pak is formed, which is cut into small rolls that can be packaged independently through a cutting machine.
6. Trimming process
After the individual rolls of Tetra Pak packages are sent for sterilization, they enter the packaging process, where the Tetra Pak packages are gradually crimped and polymerized together by machines.
7. Filling and sealing
After the end of the Tetra Pak crimping, the edges are then heat-sealed and sealed, and the milk is ready to be filled. Fill one bag at a time, cut and seal the bottom and top of the upper and lower packages at a time, fill again and seal the bottom and top of the upper and lower packages, repeat the operation to complete the milk filling and packaging sealing.
