Several commonly used printing methods for self-adhesive labels

Self adhesive label material, also known as self-adhesive label material, is a composite material made of paper, film, or other special materials as the fabric, with adhesive coated on the back and silicon coated protective paper plate as the base paper. After printing, die-cutting, and other processing, it becomes a finished label. At present, China‘s adhesive label printing can be divided into five major camps based on the different printing methods used.

Embossing

We use embossed printing for self-adhesive labels, with a photosensitive resin letterpress as the printing plate. The printed labels have the advantage of full ink color, but now there are significant differences in the level of letterpress printing equipment. Some are still using round press embossing machines, some are using ordinary rotary embossing machines, and some have already used professional oblique back, satellite, or unit type self-adhesive label printing machines. The self-adhesive printing machines, mainly based on embossing, have the ability to print thin film labels. For enterprises using circular flat relief printing machines to print self-adhesive labels, if printing thin film labels, they can replace the photosensitive resin plate with a high elasticity flexible plate, use water-based ink or UV ink suitable for the flexible plate, and change the properties of the ink to adapt to changes in the substrate.

Offset printing

Offset printing is the main way for most label printing factories to print paper stickers. The characteristics of offset printing are fine graphics and rich layers, suitable for large-scale printing, and the printing equipment can be used in multiple machines, suitable for the characteristics of the domestic label market. However, single sheet offset printing is not suitable for printing thin films without absorption on the surface, as film labels are mostly roll to roll printing and require volatile dry ink. Offset printing can print thicker plastic materials, such as in mold labels and tag tags, but the machine must be equipped with UV curing devices.

Gravure

Gravure printing uses a short ink path ink supply system for ink supply and roll material printing, with a high degree of automation. It uses solvent based ink, and the ink layer dries quickly, making it the preferred choice for thin film printing. Generally, gravure printing machines have higher speeds, and many of them are equipped with drum die-cutting devices at the rear end, which can perform die-cutting and indentation, making them suitable for printing various labels. However, due to the long plate making cycle and high plate making costs, gravure printing is only suitable for large-scale label production.

Screen printing

Screen printing is the most widely applicable printing method for substrates. Currently, many screen printing factories use low-cost screen printing equipment to undertake the printing business of self-adhesive labels and thin film labels.
